was easy to install and worked great. it shows the engine speed when the engine is running and the clock when the engine is off. that's exactly what i wanted. Good long spark gauge wire. Comes with good instructions and 2 cable ties. would recommend to anyone looking for something like this.

is a useful hour meter I have installed on my home generator to keep track of oil drain interval needs. It's also useful to have a tachometer that I can use to fine-tune the idle and load RPMs to make sure everything is running in tip-top shape. No fuss, no fuss - just works fine

I installed this on my Yamaha EF2000is alternator thanks to some kind people who answered my question if it would work with it. It works and is MUCH cheaper than a $45 Yamaha hour meter. Just wrap it around the spark plug and tape it to the outside of the generator with double sided tape. Easy enough.

It's been a few months for me. For the price it has all the features I need. However, the tachometer is unstable. The instructions say it's set to mode 2, which means one spark per revolution. Mine is set at 1.2 sparks/rev. Tried to install mode 2 and no new settings are supported. I need setting 2. It doesn't accept and is always in mode 1. So if you just don't need an hour meter it will do. I will not buy again

Works on any engine. All you have to do is set how the engine starts in the block (each lap, other lap etc etc. This gives you 4 options covering each engine type). Directions failed at a small point ---- Not told how to turn it on! Just press both buttons until it turns on. Once turned on, it stays on until the battery runs out. Just wrap the wire around the spark plug wire (next to the cap) and you're good to go. My unit is set for RPM while engine running and total run hours with engine off.

This works except RPM measurements are disabled. When idling, the craftsman motor rotates at 4000 rpm. Under load the revs are just over 5000. Yes, I pressed the buttons for the correct functions when actually trying other functions to see what they would do. You read no better. Tried on my small Honda alternator with the same readings. I figured I could still use maintenance hours. Update: September 2016 Downgraded to one star because zero stars is not available! Installed on a pressure washer

Purchased to track run time and RPM of a 13hp 420cc engine. So I can't say how well it works. I looked at him and it seems that he will cope with his task. I guess I'll have to fumble around a bit to find the right settings. The instructions were vague. I also noticed that the device is sealed. So if the battery ever dies, I'll need another rev/hour meter.
