UPDATE: counter works great!

Updated Review 5/11/2018: Support contacted me immediately after posting my first review and they were able to send another set of leads for the counter. I checked the cables and they work even better than my replacement cables. Voltages, resistance and continuity work perfectly! Rating increased to 5 points for a good product at a great price with great customer service! First review: The meter itself works great, was packaged well and had some standard length cables. Okay, but spend more for one with dedicated battery test settings

I wish I'd realized before I bought it that accurately testing household batteries (AAA, 9V, etc.) isn't enough. So my quick check is to find a multimeter with built in settings to test AAA, AA and 9V. Now the long version: This multimeter shows you the battery voltage, just not under load. My smoke alarm complained about 9v so I replaced it with a new one and it was happy. Out of curiosity, I checked the one I took with this meter, it read 9 volts! Wait. The? How can it be? Well it turns outโ€ฆ

Small numbers, bad backlight (blue), cheap cables, inaccurate

To be honest I wasn't expecting much from a $10 multimeter. An inexpensive device is needed to read small ham cells before and after a charging cycle. Bought this + another brand ($20) for comparison. Came in with a dead 9V, contacted the seller who said buy a battery and refund. This is poor customer service in my opinion and an indication of what not to expect when a warranty is required. Coming back to the article, the device itself is solidly built, with a removable rubber outer shell andโ€ฆ

For $10 this is a surprisingly good LOW VOLTAGE ONLY meter. UPDATE: More quizzes with pictures!

Well, I wasn't expecting much from a 10 dollar counter. I got it and tested it at home with a whole bunch of things. Various batteries, computer power supply, various resistors/pots, 120V AC mains and various low current loads. And it's amazingly accurate! I later took it to work, tested it on a desktop power supply, and compared it to half a dozen other multimeters (benchtop and handheld), and while it's clearly not as accurate as its more expensive brethren, it gets the job done! There's noโ€ฆ
