Description of 🔭 Astromania 1.25-Inch Metal Collimating Cheshire Eyepiece - Long Version for Newtonian Reflector Telescope

Fits in 1.25" focusers and easy to use;simply cap the telescope, remove the diagonal, and place the eyepiece directly in the focuser. For aligning optics of Newtonian reflectors, Dobsonian reflectors, and Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescopes (SCTs). Accurate collimation is essential for high power observing. Stars will become more like pin points of light, and Planetary / Lunar detail will be enhanced. Item was made by aluminum with crosshair at the bottom allow quick and precise centering of the optics. This collimation eyepiece can be used for precisely collimating the Newtonian and Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector telescopes for better image quality.

Batteries are not required!

I got a 114mm Newtonian telescope for Christmas and I dropped it on our first walk. I thought this would be a useful tool for realigning (collimating) things. It was. I found some decent instructions online (don't count on helpful instructions) and was able to get my telescope back on track. The crosshairs on mine didn't seem to be centered properly, but I was able to rotate it. eyepiece for compensation. (-1 star for instructions and crosshairs).

  • Inspires confidence

  • Lots of stuff

Key to mechanical collimation

I bought a used 10" Newtonian telescope. First I bought a laser collimator. It gave me my scope's optical collimation. "Mirror! I read more and found that to achieve mechanical collimation I needed a Cheshire collimator. This Cheshire collimator was key to correctly positioning and aiming my secondary mirror. This Astromania Cheshire Collimator works great, is easy to use and very affordable! Thank you Astromania!

Wish I had the long version

Bought this to collimate a used Orion XT8 that was far from collimating. The XT8 is my second scope, but it was my first attempt at collimation. It took many hours and I still wasn't very happy with my progress, but when I finally got him outside one night I realized he was actually quite dialed in. I use it several times a month for a few months. now I don't have to touch it anymore. Definitely get the long version if it fits like I would have liked. I will be buying something else for…

View too narrow for 10 " Newtonian

Long version: The field of view of the long version is too narrow for my 10" f/4.7 Newtonian telescope. The field of view is so narrow that I can't see all 6 clips of the main mirror at once, so the collimator doesn't work for me. The build quality of the device makes a solid impression. This can work for Newtonians with focal lengths greater than 4.7. Short version: I also tried the short version, but the device was defective. Seen from the peephole, the reticle was not in the center of the…

It works as it should

Works really well but you have to know what to expect and what to do. Read or watch an online video on how to use a Cheshire collimator. The hole you look at it through is very small and the collimator is very short. The reticle is clear and works to collimate my 114mm reflector. Edited: May 4th, 2018 I've been using this for the past few days to collimate my AR127 and ST80 refractors, so it works for refractors too. You can unscrew and remove the reticle frame, a very valuable feature on this…

It does its job well, twice cheaper than the competition.

I give 5 stars for shipping and handling. I received this item twice as fast as I expected. So many thanks to the seller for the excellent service. I give 4 stars for the product. This is a good article that does its job well. The goal was precise for me. I aimed the laser through the peep hole and the laser hit the exact center of the hair (the laser was flush with the surface of the collimator) so I know the hair was very accurate. My only complaint was that this collimator was too loose in…
