It picks up sounds very well at a wide angle.

This microphone works exactly as advertised. It perfectly picks up sound from a wide angle anywhere close to the microphone. It is important to know that this microphone requires phantom power. And that you may also need to order a box that provides phantom power for the microphone.

Pros
  • Free for educational use
Cons
  • Style 90

Great alternative to separate microphones. (If money is an issue.)

I bought this mic to use in a high school stage production. We couldn't afford overhead mics for 9 actors. I bought a few of these and put them in strategic places on the stage. Ambient noise wasn't very noticeable, and the microphones picked up sound from a very decent distance. Good buy. Costs money.

Incorrect product description

The product description says "Self-contained electronics eliminates the need for external power modules." That means no phantom power is needed, I think, right? It actually needs phantom power. I bought the microphone based on this description and it turned out to be wrong. I will change my rating if the product description changes as other people like me will choose this product based on what the description says.

  • Hands-free
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

Excellent Boundry XLR Mic

I use a mic connected to a Mackie mixer which then connects to my computer. I use the mixer for random podcasts or podcast editing. In any case, the microphone is much better than the normal microphone in the computer. I will also use the mic for personal web conferencing and in the conference room settings. The mixer allows me to plug in multiple condenser mics in different places in the room so those we meet online can hear everyone in the room. In any case, this is a good microphone.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Good but not great

Great sound and durability at a very affordable price.

This microphone has an exceptional price of $100. It has high gain and is very clean. It's pretty durable and I like the extra long thin cable that comes with it. We bought a pair to use as mics for dance performances and they pick up quite well. They're not as accurate as my old Crown PCC, but they're a third of the price, so for most applications this isn't a problem. I would highly recommend them if you want good clean sound with decent durability on a budget.

Cannot be heard from a distance

Other reviews are very positive so I bought one to put on the floor outside our church hall for our singing together during our live church service to hold on. The feedback when it was on the floor was terrible so I put it on the table in front of the lectern. I had to keep the gain very low so it didn't give me any feedback, so it could only pick up from a few feet if you spoke to it directly. Needless to say, I wasn't able to get it to work as I had hoped. . Maybe it was me or the tech I was…

Works great

We use them for our theater productions. The blocks are quite small, about the size of a pack of cigarettes. They are amazingly sensitive. Our stage is 30 feet wide, but we can effectively cover it with just one mic. However, we use three stage locations for productions - left, center and right. The only complaint I have is that I would have preferred the mini XLR connector to come out the side rather than the back. Since we are placing the mics on the stage bar, which is elevated because the…

Ideal for recording audio during group sessions. Zoom

I am not an audiophile or VCR. I just wanted something to help Zoom with my parents and my kids. With the laptop mic, the kids had to be right next to the laptop so my parents could hear them through the zoom. I'm glad I read about these Border style mic patterns they use in conference mics. This thing just sits on the corner of my desk and I no longer have a problem with parents not hearing my kids even if they are across the room. It's small, unobtrusive, and doesn't take up much desk space…

I am impressed. A few notes

This device keeps my video conference going and saves me from having to wear a lavalier bracelet or show a mic in a video (drives me crazy) or spend silly amounts on a boom mic. I connected it to Zoom v3. It works great and even at low volume it still sounds crystal clear. This requires phantom power; make sure you take this into account. I've also found that the mic volume (on any audio device) needs to be somewhere above 75% to really get a good signal. It's not that you won't hear any sound…

  • Low repairability
