I am not an audiophile or VCR. I just wanted something to help Zoom with my parents and my kids. With the laptop mic, the kids had to be right next to the laptop so my parents could hear them through the zoom. I'm glad I read about these Border style mic patterns they use in conference mics. This thing just sits on the corner of my desk and I no longer have a problem with parents not hearing my kids even if they are across the room. It's small, unobtrusive, and doesn't take up much desk space like other large condenser mics. This is probably a bit of an exaggeration as I also had to buy a USB interface for the 48V power supply I needed (went with Focusrite's solution). But overall it solved my problems, and if I ever want to start a podcast I can probably do it at a higher quality.
