Then I put a little onion in it and cook them like pancakes

I put them in hot water for a few minutes and they become soft. Then I drain the water through a sieve. Then I put in some onions and cook them like hash browns. I eat them with scrambled eggs and they taste really good. I like her. My wife too.

Pros
  • A lot of positive emotions
Cons
  • unreliable

Good to have on hand

The only thing I found wrong with these potato slices was the rehydration instructions. They tell you to use too much water. For BEST results, cover the potatoes with hot (almost boiling) water and let sit for 20 minutes. When done, they'll be the perfect consistency for making restaurant-quality potato pancakes.

Absolutely fantastic pancakes!

We like to eat brownies on the weekends. But it seems like groceries at the grocery store are always 1 frozen block of grated potatoes. It was a great replacement and also saves space in my freezer. These taste very good. You won't notice that they are boiled in water and then fried. My husband even learned how to cook it for me to roast. I recommend and will buy again.

Durability good/bad when opened

Likely durability of 25 years as it is almost impossible to open. I started with an electric can opener that didn't work an inch. Then tried the new manual opener - no, tried all 3 old manual openers - no. I ended up using a really sharp knife and more or less sawing it. Yes! It only lasted half an hour. By now the water I had been heating had cooled and my hands were almost tired measuring potatoes. I've used them to make a farmhouse breakfast, but I won't do it again.

Pros
  • Excellent price
Cons
  • Periodicity

Exceeded Expectations

Fairly common in my military years was the forced use of restored "dried" potatoes, my memory left me with a somewhat shaky expectation of what this "baby" would become. I followed the cooking instructions exactly and then grilled the potatoes with onions, salt, pepper and some garlic. Wow. Thanks Augason for erasing a not-so-tasty memory! They responded well to rehydration and they responded well to the addition of spice. Great addition to a survival food bank!

Tasty, practical, carefully packaged

The can is opened with a pleasant whistle, indicating that the products are fresh. Two moisture absorbers inside so the potato shreds were still nice and dry. Cook for ten minutes, drain the water and you have pieces for potato pancakes. In the pan, they cook like fresh or frozen pieces. Each serving contains 450mg of sodium, but cooking/drying removes some of this amount. The potatoes retained a slightly salty taste, so there was no need to salt the finished dish. Delicious on its own or…

I really love these products!

I bought this product for both emergencies and everyday use. I am the eldest and only have to cook for myself. I cook very little, so potatoes tend to spoil before I use them. I figured it would be cheaper if I bought dried potatoes and various other veggies for emergencies and everyday use. I only have to drink what I want to eat and I don't have to worry about storage or running to the store every time I want to buy fresh vegetables. I was also able to get rid of my freezer as I never seem to

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Vulgarity

The perfect Waffle House pancakes.

I don't know about you, but one of my nasty treats is Waffle House potato pancakes. I love her and sometimes I long for it. If you do everything right, you'll have the perfect Waffle House potato. I myself have tried to make them in many ways, but they never turned out like this. Soak them in ice water for about 15 minutes while you do other things, strain and toss in the hot pan. Brown them well on one side before turning and frying on the other side. Just turn them around once. And my friend,

six of one; 1/2 dozen others

ok first let me say they taste GREAT and when cooked are almost indistinguishable from fresh potatoes. That's the way it's supposed to be, and that's great! If you feel the need to maintain food supplies for religious or political reasons, this is a great choice for your pantry. Six out of a half dozen other comments relate to prep time. This is not a time saver. Until I restore them and then bake them like potato pancakes, for example, I might as well start with some fresh potatoes, heat them…
