Perfect base layer for my son

We needed an inexpensive base layer for my son to hike with and this fitted the bill. A solid polypropylene kit costs a lot less than performance-matched stuff you can find at a camp store.

Pros
  • Keeps you warm: Low thermal conductivity. Polypropylene has the lowest thermal conductivity of any synthetic or natural fiber, over 7.3% lower than wool
Cons
  • Available in white only

Thin but well layered

This material was a lot thinner than I expected, more like pantyhose than leggings. Stretchy but looks tiny. The shirt was a bit small/short for my son who is size 8/10 but was fine to wear under a sweatshirt and ski joggers. He said it was comfortable.

Pros
  • Lightweight: Polypropylene is the lightest of all fiber materials, lighter than water Polypropylene is the only fiber that can float on water, 20% lighter than nylon, 35% lighter than polyester, 40% lighter cotton
Cons
  • Easily torn

Keeps my son warm!

My son goes hiking 2-3 times a year in cold weather (I mean around 32 degrees or less at night) and this kit really keeps him warm during the trip. The shirt also goes well with the short-sleeved shirt at school. Recommend this if you like being outside in cold weather but don't like the cold. :)

Pros
  • Han Vapor Transfer: Polypropylene isn't bibuliform so doesn't get wet, Han gas is easy to transport Contact with leather
Cons
  • Some bugs
