Lights up immediately.: Glow plugs

What else can I say? I just did the driver's side and it's starting like wildfire in California. Light and smoky. I will do the passenger side in spring. There is no garage.

Pros
  • Solid design
Cons
  • Low repairability

no quality control

Spot welded tabs on 4 of the 8 nozzles broke off on slight provocation. You MUST bend the ends of each glow plug to keep the wires from coming out of the exhaust. I've re-welded the 4 that broke off and they still seem to work, but let's see how they perform in the long run. Also, Champion glow plugs are junk. I bought 5 two months ago and 4 of them broke. I expected more from Bosch for four times the price.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Empty

4 out of 8 best glow plugs

It used to be glow plugs. There appears to be oil or other contaminants on the parts to be welded. There is welding but no penetration. You can see where the weld is flat, where it meets the electric tongue and stops. I suspect it has stopped working due to vibration. I'll try to get a guarantee on those 4, and I guess I'll need a guarantee on those 3 to get enough 'good' ones to complete the job. I have an ASE Masters Certificate and have done this job multiple times for GM and International…

Pros
  • cool product
Cons
  • volume

The spot welds on the end of the blade are inconsistent and weak.

The spot welds attaching the electrode blade to the filament rod are inconsistent at best. Package. I have two to replace, so if you're buying these plan on buying two extras. If you're lucky, you'll have two spares. Otherwise the quality is good. I like the taper at the end of the filament, which is designed to help prevent the filament from stretching and twisting, making later removal difficult.

Pros
  • Pretty impressive
Cons
  • boring packaging
