I'm a huge Champion fan and they didn't disappoint. These are medium weight gloves, don't expect them to be very thick. But they are perfect for the vast majority of winter situations - not too bulky, waterproof, windproof, with extra grip - all the qualities you need for most outdoor activities. Also, most kids don't like very bulky gloves and we don't take our kids outside in freezing weather anyway lol. So there's no point in putting a heavy gauntlet on them if they absolutely don't need it.
