Great way to get a serial port

If your microcontroller needs to communicate with your computer, this could be a great way. Do you have an external serial modem? thermal receipt printer? (DB9) Are you trying to talk to an antique device like a teletypewriter or an acoustic modem? You will need one of these. heh

Pros
  • Serial Cables
Cons
  • Makes me angry

This is a true Prolific device and requires the Prolific driver.

This is a genuine Prolific device, requires Prolific drivers. This works the first time you connect out of the box. It appears to be the same product as the standard StarTech device, which also works. There are many fake serial ports on the market that don't work.

Pros
  • Computers and accessories
Cons
  • Hard to say

Who has time to enter scanner frequencies manually? Not this girl!

I needed a connector to use my new Bearcat scanner with a Dell laptop and run Freescan. Who the hell still likes serial ports Bearcat, god?! To kid. Kind. Went like clockwork. No problem. Note. I have Windows 8.1. Update: same scanner (BCT15X), new laptop (Windows 10). It still works great!

Very good adapter in computer accessories and peripherals

I use it to run an old computer controlled radio. (PCR-1000) Using Windows 7 and quick installation of the adapter driver. Pay attention to the communication port assigned to it, it is initially set to 11. You can easily change it in Device Manager. Choose the advanced option and select the mapping number required for your device. I switched mine to com port 2. The radio worked right away. So far it has been very reliable. Also, if you change the USB ports, the driver will reinstall and…
