I took this to try on my astronomy photography project and it turned out to be very well made to withstand DIY abuse and help bring ideas to life on site In short, I made a great "equatorial wedge" out of this piece by inserting it between the tripod base and the pano ball head to support nearly 15 pounds of photo gear including counterweight.

On first use when attempting to remove the adapter from the tripod the male thread portion broke into a spiral metal thread. It appears to have been made by wrapping around a thin piece of metal to make the female and male threads, which came loose the first time I had to disassemble the head I was using from the tripod. This is a good concept, but you'll need to look for a more robust design where the ¼ female thread is not in the 3/8 male thread.

As much as I had high hopes for this product, it was not of the highest quality. Once screwed into the tripod, then connected to the ball head; The ball head just broke off and the screw resembles a ball head. At this point you could say that the screw was completely hollow and had no stability whatsoever. The ball head was rendered unusable without drilling open the broken screw. However, AMAZON was great and got my money back quickly.
