Outstanding camera. Less than a pro camcorder

I'm upgrading my RP to R5. To be honest the photo quality is as expected. The user experience is much better than my RP with new control buttons and richer software features. The best I've found is a much better viewfinder that makes me feel like I'm in a tiny cinema. However, I'm not giving a 5-star rating as I'm disappointed with Canon's poor design for internal thermal management. I'm not looking for unlimited 8k or 4k HQ video recording, but there's no technical justification for not having

Big update with 5D Mark IV

The future of mirrorless cameras is here. Coming from the 5D Mark IV and other DSLRs, I'm very used to using OVF. But the R5's EVF is big, bright, clear, and as a bonus, myopia doesn't need to wear glasses when looking through the EVF. Autofocus is lightning fast, with minimal lag and blackout when using the 12fps mechanical shutter. If you're worried about the stop motion effect in the EVF when tracking with the EOS R, this camera gets better with faster Digic X processing. IBIS is a game…

Great upgrade from the 5D Mark II

Nothing but good things to say about this R5 and the new RF lenses so far. Everything in my set was over 10 years old. I didn't see a good reason to upgrade and upgrade to newer lenses or bodies until the R5 and other RF lenses showed up later in 2020. After the switch I can say that the R5 works very well with RF lenses. Coming from older hardware like me (5D Mark II, lenses 10+ years old) the first most obvious improvement is autofocus performance. The percentage of depot images I receive is…

Impressive in all categories

First of all, I have never recorded video with a handheld camera and never will, so this review is for photography only, not camcorders. I consider myself an advanced assembler who has been dedicated to photography for 40 years. I can't say enough good things about the R5 - I got it with the RF 24-105 f4L lens. I also have a Canon adapter and have used the adapter with all my lenses (Tamron, Sigma, Rokinon and Canon - all EF) and they all work perfectly - in some cases better than my 6DMII…

Expensive but cool

Elephant in the room - cost and video issues. I don't record videos so I don't care about that aspect and Canon have fixed some issues with the latest firmware versions. There is no getting around the costs. Anyone who can/will accept that will get a great camera. I've been an old DSLR snob for a long time, but I haven't touched my DSLRs since I got these. I mainly photograph wildlife (birds) and landscapes. The images I get with the R5 are amazing. I chose R5 over R6 as I knew I would…

WOW - what a camera! All I wished for R was more. UPDATE: see edits

Coming from the EOS R, this camera is everything I wanted from the R. Everything I loved about the R is still there: focus accuracy, face and eye detection, and a bright and comfortable electronic viewfinder. The R5 goes one step further, offering a near lag-free viewfinder (higher resolution!), very fast autofocus with eye/face detection, IBIS and many more features. Most important to me is the lag-free viewfinder and ability to focus to keep up with my kids and still be amazingly accurate…

Great photos when the focus really works.

This is my first review of the Canon EOS R5 which I have owned for three months now. I currently have a love/hate relationship with the camera comparing it to my EOS 5D IV. For the first 1.5 months the weather here in the North West was very rainy and windy and I didn't get a chance to experience it myself so I missed the Revain return window. I've recently taken about 5,000 photos, mostly with telephoto lenses. I mainly shoot wildlife, with a particular focus on hummingbirds, but also some…
