This is a good case, but too small for many external hard drives. I bought this for a LaCie Rugged outer case and the zipper on this case won't close. This case is great for slim external devices, but I suspect the average retail buyer of this type of drive is a price tag shopper and tends to splurge on one case. On the other hand, professional users tend to buy higher end drives and this case just doesn't fit, except for the smallest external drives.

Somehow I like this new case model. Aesthetically, it's quite attractive and pleasing; it's both lightweight and protective. And I like the customized design that uses the rubber band to hold the drive horizontally because it allows me to easily plug the external drive into my computer without having to completely remove the drive from its case. I decided against many other options for this one because from the outside it seemed more durable than most, so I assumed it offered more protection. While I think that's true, it's a shame if you're storing something in an inside pocket, it has to be very thin, otherwise it'll put a lot of pressure on the hard drive when it's zipped shut. This case provides ample coverage and protection for the drive. It provides an elegant outer shell while protecting the drive and its USB cable. It's snug and big enough to fit in the drive. The opposite pocket size can hold a thin booklet, but the USB floppy cable should be folded neatly so the ends pass directly over the floppy drive when the clamshell case is closed. I think it's a "win" overall.

I only use these cases. They're just the right size for the portable external drives I've bought. They are small and contain a drive, cables, and small items such as flash drives. Luckily, while I've never dropped them, they feel the encased drive is secure in this case. If you're looking for a secure case that protects your drive, then the Case Logic case won't disappoint.
