Disappointing magnetic welding switch

After trying this industrial tool, I found that the magnetic hold is not strong enough to securely hold metal pieces together. The switch is also difficult to operate and doesn't always stay in place making it frustrating to use..

Pros
  • None
Cons
  • Weak magnetic hold, difficult switch operation.

Switchable magnets - how do they work?

(It's actually pretty cool how switchable permanent magnets work; check it out on YouTube if you're interested.) Anyone serious about welding has a bunch of magnetic corner blocks handy – although not necessarily switchable. Since I'm just starting out with welding, I only have one so far. They are essential for keeping steel plates at right angles (or 45°) when tacking. These special corner blocks work well, although their fit and finish are nothing special.

Pros
  • Nice to use
Cons
