Description of Celestron 93428 X Cel 1 25 Inch Barlow

Quality X Cel LX 3x Barlow triples the magnification of any 1.25 inch eyepiece, perfect for owners of fast, short focal length telescopes. 3 element apochromatic, fully multi coated optics offer up bright, sharp images with excellent color correction. A rubber grip helps to avoid accidental drops. Barrel is threaded to accept standard 1.25 inch filters. A brass compression ring holds eyepiece firmly in place.

Stripes visible on Jupiter

Has a Celestron 80X scope that does not work well. I see Jupiter and the four moons or rings of Saturn. Adding to that, Jupiter hasn't changed much and can actually track speed. You can see the topography of the moon. Great addition

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • No instructions

Live video before and after

Celestron 3X Barlow Lens 1.25" X-cel Lx I bought this Barlow X-Cel LX lens three times to get more detailed live images of the moon with a webcam designed for X-Cel LX series eyepieces Works great! This video is in 720p and mounted on a 9mm X-Cel XL eyepiece. Without Barlow, then with Barlow.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Miscellaneous Miscellaneous

Barlow is always nice to have

Barlow is a must in every astronomer's accessory bag. I prefer to hold hands 2x, 2.5x and 3x, but not much higher than the others. You can get them at 4x or higher, but not at Celestron. You can also use them to get 6x magnification if you need it with a large eyepiece like 32mm or 52mm. They are durable and work well.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something

For wide aperture use

This Barlow lens is made of solid material with good optics, but while it triples your focal length, it also triples your focal length. The 650mm f/5 becomes the 1950mm f/15. What was once a fast telescope capable of seeing faint objects has now become a slow telescope that has trouble seeing faint objects. I personally wouldn't go beyond 2x Barlow, but that's just me. However, it can still be good for observing planets.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Available in white only

Surprised by the planetary images with this 3x Barlow lens

I am amazed at the planetary images I can get with this 3x Barlow lens attached to my 130mm Newtonian telescope. The attached images of Jupiter (with the Great Red Spot and 3 visible moons) and Saturn are from my Celestron AstroMaster 130 (with Telrad Finder) and a ZWO ASI120 MC-S camera attached to an X-Cel LX 3X Barlow. The images were processed with AutoStakkert! 2.6.8 and RegiStax 6 software.

Pros
  • good thing
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

New tricks with an old dog.

I have a 20 year old 114 inch Celestron Newtonian telescope that has been sitting in the attic for several years. The most basic eyepieces it has historically come with were terrible at first. However, I enjoy them very much. When Comet Lovejoy caused excitement, I decided to pull out my old telescope. I wiped the mirror and looked up. The eyepieces were scratched and completely unusable. So I bought both the 25mm and 7mm X-Cel eyepieces and the X-Cel LX 3x Barlow lens. All I can say is holy…

Pros
  • Certified
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other picks

The quality is mediocre.

Mediocre quality, mediocre optics. Barlow figured this out by increasing the magnification well, magnifying any flaws in the lens itself. I do not recommend buying this. Rather spend a little more money and buy a Tele Vue. The Tele Vue eyecups are some of the highest quality you can buy. With every product, you get what you pay for. Tele Vue makes "Power Mate" of excellent quality.

Pros
  • Brass locking ring holds eyepiece securely in place
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

I feel robbed!

hole) Was surprised when I took it off, it was bigger than I thought. (1st impression) It seems that first impression was a factor in its development. Looks good, feels good. (Use) inserted, looked and was satisfied, but only a little bit. It was humid outside, so I assumed the humid air was affecting the quality of what I was seeing. Well it's super clear tonight and I went out to look and ponder to compare stock 3× Barlow. When I switched them to the new one I couldn't believe the new Barlow…

Pros
  • Rubber grip prevents accidental drops
Cons
  • Obsolete model
