I use this bracket to mount my car DVRs instead of the brackets that come with the cameras. I find it much easier to move the DVR in and out of the vehicle as needed. For the end of the clip where the red elastic is, I cut out a special square velcro to sit in that area. The clip can get very hot at times during the summer months. When this happens, the red rubber grip will actually melt on the dash cam. Velcro fasteners prevent this.

I have Onyx with a gel teat. I love the Onyx but struggled to get my phone or GPS in a vise without hurting my fingers. I prefer this holder as it also has suction gels and is more comfortable for those of us who are clumsy (don't judge me) or who have small hands. I don't think I would want to use it or any other gel sucker anywhere other than on my windshield as the sucker is HARD to remove. I heard the dashboard came off with a suction cup.

I bought two of these car mounts. I like the clip and it doesn't get stuck on my phone's side buttons. I've bought a few of these over the last few years and it seems like the suction power has really gone down the toilet! I can't get it to stick and stay on the windshield anymore. I have a radar detector with regular windshield suction cups and the thing won't come off YET, but those crappy gel suction cups are totally useless. Purchased to keep drink cup holders clean. This way I can easily access it without picking up the phone. The gel suction cup really only sticks to flat surfaces. Anything that curves doesn't stick. I managed to find a place for it in a niche under my 2018 Forester's stereo. It holds up very well even on our bumpy Northern California roads. Paid about $6 now 8 or 9 but still worth the money. Sticks well to wood and plastic. Porch setup where I keep my large ZTE model. Fits easily. Great block but don't expect it to last a lifetime. It has excellent suction power, is relatively easy to remove, and can be adjusted to almost any angle on any windshield. If you are very careful with this I would expect it to take about a year before anything happens. If, like me, you drive a car every other day, expect it to last a few months.
