These charcoal pencils are a disaster for any artist wanting to use them. They constantly crumble and smudge leaving a mess on your hands and art supplies. The only pro is that they produce a very dark and smooth line. However, the cons far outweigh the good. As someone who regularly partakes in arts and crafts, I do not recommend these pencils.

I like 4b charcoal because it's not too hard and not too soft. And it's a good brand that I've been using since art school. The pencil shape eliminates a lot of the messy fingers you get with straight charcoal pencils. The pens run out pretty quickly and I need to stock up. I can easily go halfway through one of these 4b charcoal pencils when I have a large 18" x 24" drawing ready.
