The CTEK MXS 5.0 TEST AND CHARGE charger combines an advanced microprocessor controlled charger with battery and alternator diagnostics to provide superior battery testing, charging and maintenance. Testing - Three programs to measure voltage, starting power and alternator efficiency provide a complete picture of the condition of the vehicle''s battery and charging system. Charging - The MXS 5.0 TEST & CHARGE provides excellent battery efficiency from 1.2Ah to 110Ah. The charger solves a wide range of battery maintenance problems. The design features of the device include a patented automatic desulfation program and a special function to restore electrolyte stratification in deeply discharged batteries. The patented preventative pulse charging mode is ideal for long-term battery storage. The MXS 5.0 TEST & CHARGE stack is a fully automatic 8-stage charger with selectable 0.8A or 5A charging current for 12V batteries from 1.2Ah to 110Ah (in charging mode) and up to 160 Ah (in preventive charging/maintenance mode). The MXS 5.0 TEST & CHARGE charger is IP65 rated (splash and dust proof), safe for on-board vehicle electronics, non-sparking, polarity reversal and short circuit proof. It is possible to connect directly to the vehicle''s on-board network. Charging stages: DESULPHATION (desulfatization) - applying voltage in a pulsed mode allows you to remove sulfates from the surface of lead plates, thereby restoring battery capacity. SOFT START (soft start) - the battery''s ability to accept charge is checked. If the battery is in order, the charging process begins. BULK (main charge) - charging with maximum current up to about 80% of the battery capacity. ABSORPTION (absorption) - ready for use - charging with a gradually decreasing current up to 100% of the battery capacity. ANALYSE (diagnostics) - check the ability of the battery to hold a charge. If the battery is unable to hold a charge, it may need to be replaced. RECOND (recovery) - a function to restore electrolyte stratification in heavily discharged batteries. FLOAT (buffer mode) - full charge - maintaining the battery voltage at the maximum level by applying a constant voltage. PULSE ( pulse charging) - preventive charging - the battery charge is maintained at 95-100% capacity. I was surprised by the quality for this price.

Case with ears for stationary mounting, it may be convenient in the garage / service, at home - unnecessary. The functionality of testing the battery and generator according to the instructions is that a conventional voltmeter is only inconvenient because it is made with light bulbs. Again, maybe someone needs it, but exactly the same thing can be done with any multimeter, since the device cannot do battery testing under load. Pros
  • Absolutely amazing shape for a car charger, very compact, complete with a bag in which it's all put. High-quality and very long wires, "crocodiles" insulated on all sides, are disconnected from the main unit with a connector (and not tightly attached to it, as is usually the case) The device is from the "turned on and forgot" series, there is nothing to configure there, it is a full automatic device, it does something by itself. However, there is a battery desulfation mode, in theory the right thing.
Cons
  • The power plug is epic in size and makes it difficult to insert neighboring plugs, most likely they have this wire universal for all devices, and among them there are very powerful ones! The case despite the appearance of plastic. LED indication - for an amateur, an attempt to cross professional features with a purely user interface; it would be more convenient for me to figure out the current and voltage, but here in the instructions there is a table which light bulb means how many volts. The case heats up noticeably during operation, but not critical. The maximum current is 5A, I bought this particular model because it is exactly the same, but at 10A it costs almost 2 times more, and there is another 2 times more at 40A, funny pricing. 5A to make it clear, for an average car battery, this is about a day of charge.
