Thanks to my knowledge gained in practice, I'll say that this t-shirt does not deserve to be categorized as "essential." The fabric felt cheap and wrinkled easily. The sizing was off, making the fit uncomfortable. The only positive was the affordable price. Save yourself the trouble and invest in a higher quality basic t-shirt.
