Underrated in Switches & Relays

I have purchased several of these switches (80 & 100 amp) over the past 2 years. I have found that 80 amp circuit breakers operate between 45 and 55 amps and 100 amp switches operate between 75 and 78 amps. They appear to be good jackhammers, rating aside. I tested the inrush current with different meters to be sure that the meter wasn't the problem.

Didn't serve me well

I used this circuit breaker between my alternator and batteries on my Cummins Dodge Ram 24 valve. It didn't last. It tripped that circuit breaker every time I drove the truck and eventually wouldn't reset. Since I've been doing other truck maintenance for a few weeks. The return window was 8 days ago. I replaced the fuse box with 140 amp which lasted. This circuit breaker may be defective.

Pros
  • Circuit Breaker
Cons
  • Expensive

Cannot handle full rated current

I have 150A (Type B). It was exactly what I was looking for and worked well until subjected to heavy use. This circuit breaker tripped at 76 A for 8 minutes. Half of what was estimated. I was able to reset the switch after a short cool down, but it tripped again after the same stress. Don't rely on the amperage, you need to buy one rated for at least twice the load required.

Pros
  • Automotive
Cons
  • Non car
