I recently built my own battery using Li-ion batteries. When fully charged, the battery is 16V. Although I should have used LifePo4 batteries to get a reliable 12V battery, I decided to try one of those instead. Worked great for what I needed to do. Maintained a good 12v when the batteries went down from 16v to the 11v I installed. It didn't get very hot either, despite only drawing 12A from it. Although it's a little larger than I expected, it did its job well.

I don't know why there are so many bad reviews. People say it's loud, but mine is literally quiet. People say it's hot. Well, it should get a little warm, and mine doesn't even get very hot. My multimeter reads a stable 12.2 VDC. This gearbox is very compact and small compared to others I've seen, which saved me as my mounting options were very limited. I use this between a 100w solar panel which puts out 17-18v in full sun and this regulator which puts out a good 12.6-12 .8 V, which I then connect to a 12 B car fan for heat dissipation. my business when it's sunny outside. When the clouds cover the solar panel, this device outputs what it can get from the solar panel.
