game changer! - Pastels

I only recently discovered PanPastels and this was the first set I bought. Where have you been all my life?! I use this to "paint" dinosaur and horse models with acrylics and it's absolutely wonderful. It changed my experience of drawing models and inspired me to do more. As a note. You need to seal it between layers by layering it. Make sure color and pastel layers are sealed and dry before adding new ones.

Pros
  • Excellent overall specs
Cons
  • Nothing here

Smooth and Vivid: Drawing

Wonderful vivid colors and ease of use. I have no experience with pastels of any kind and found the included applicator easy to use (although the constant washing of the small foam tips and wedge applicator is a little tiring). I mostly use them as a base coat for colored pencil drawings, but I might try old college pastels too! It's so much fun to work with and significantly less time consuming than other environments.

Pros
  • Useful for more than intended purpose
Cons
  • Some bugs

I love love love pan pastels. I am a figure sculptor and use them to paint my polymer clay figures. They are very soft and can be used with many instruments. I like to do a little typing on a sheet of pastel paper that I use as a palette and then I can mix the colors to get other colors. I apply them with a brush, both wet and dry. This set is great for skin tones. This is the perfect combination of brown shades for all skin types. It is also available in a palette. something I haven't had…

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

They will come in handy when using new application methods.

These are intense colours. On some surfaces (non-glossy) they can behave almost like paint - you have to work to remove the excess. I am developing "Light Application" methods. So far I like these very much. Looks like they'll last a long time. The containers are 2 1/4 inches in diameter. They are 1/2" tall and 1/4" pastels deep. Each container is externally threaded at the top and internally threaded at the bottom. After removing them from the packaging you see in the photo, they should be…

Very impressive!

I have both this set and a soot/soot set for aging model trains. Very impressive results, very quick and easy to use and has lots of product. It definitely sticks and holds up better than regular large pastels. And a lot less mess as you don't have to grind/grind/scrape into a powder to use this product. One small flaw I found, true pastels don't have separate lids, only one middle lid in each set, the rest just have shells covering them. Not that big of a problem until you 1 send it and 2 try…

Ideal for weathered models

I love these pastel shades better than any I have to add some weathering to the areas that need it. The material sticks well everywhere. I didn't have to remove it so I can't comment but you can if you have to. I also have several other brands of powder crayons, Dr. Ben's, art pastels like Rembrandt and Sennelier Soft Pastels and a few others that I use often but none of them stick or fade as quickly as these PanPastel's. However, I use Sennelier and Rembrandt with alcohol and they behave more…
