Works well with Opengear, Cisco, Aruba, Juniper console connections

I bought several OIKWAN console cables for different network devices. The console cable worked without any problems. Not compatible with Juniper, Cisco, Aruba Networks or Opengear Network Appliances. Of the 5 cables I bought, all but one worked perfectly. An RJ45 connector is broken on one of the cables. But the cable still worked normally.

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

Good console cable but NOT PnP!

Everything is fine with this cable except for two things: 1) My laptop didn't receive a USB device and didn't install any device drivers. I had to download and install them. For me it's not that important, for others maybe it is. 2) I'd like to see a slightly better RJ45 connector (or at least a look at the trunk to cover the clip). Definitely recommend to tech savvy people looking for a good Cisco console cable!

Good product for USB cable

bought to use with Cisco devices for console access. Installation was easy. I had no problems with this cable. My old cable caused a blue screen. This cable has not caused any problems. I would recommend and buy again. Quick Tip: As with most Cisco console cables, the RJ45 end of this connector won't have a hard time breaking the clip. I keep a plug on the end of the RJ45 when I carry it around. It would be better if they put a clip without a hook.

Works exactly as advertised

Works exactly as advertised. Was able to connect to a Cisco managed switch and factory reset it and then reconfigure it from scratch. Note: The mere presence of this cable does not allow you to connect to the switch. You need a tool like telnet to connect. Cisco makes these instructions available on its website. Hopefully, if you have a Cisco managed switch, you're already familiar with it, but for those who have never dealt with it, you'll need to do a little research.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • No instructions

Works great until it stops working

I've been using this cable for about a month with no problems. The cable is ideal for configuring Cisco devices. Unfortunately the cable no longer works today. It shows up briefly in Device Manager before the computer decides it's disabled. I tried to unplug the cable from the USB port and it was hot. I've tried this on multiple systems with the same result. This is very bad because it seems to be a really good quality cable. Be careful and have a spare console cable on hand just in case.

Pros
  • Solid construction
Cons
  • Damaged

Works exactly as expected with driver download

This cable worked exactly as I needed it to. I bought an 8 port Cisco 3560 switch to play around with, but I didn't have a system with a serial port. I found this cable and it works exactly as I expected. I had to download the FTDI drivers because Windows 10 Pro didn't install them automatically. After installing the drivers, I found the COM port mapping in Device Manager and used putty to connect through the Cisco console port. I was able to set up the switch with no problems.

  • Electronics
Cons
  • Socket required

Windows update driver for FTDI installed with no problems

I do a lot of console work and used Belkin's USB to serial port (9 pin) - it works great but is awkward to carry. I got this to keep it simple and I just plugged it into my Win7 and Win10 laptops. I allowed driver installation through Windows Update Center and successfully installed the 2017 USB FTDI Serial Driver and FTDI USB Serial Converter Driver. To work with a Cisco router - I changed the baud rate to 9600 - data bits 8 - stop bits 1 - no parity - no flow control and it works with noā€¦

Does not work: Cables and Accessories

I was very disappointed with this purchase. I used a makeshift serial cable connected to a USB cable. From what I saw on Revain I was ready to buy a replacement. I have tried this cable with all possible settings. I tried the broad tariffs 9200 and 11 5200. Nothing worked with this cable. What was surprising was that when I use my old cable with the exact same settings, everything works. So I sent these back with great disappointment. I hope I can find a replacement cable, it works.
