Skipping is due to the internal speakers bouncing off the stylus and in turn destroying your vinyl records by cutting grooves in them. The first one I received didn't turn. Returning it via UPS was easy but was disappointing as it was a gift. The second worked fine. The sound wasn't very good, but it's better to connect it to a Bose speaker. After a few months of irregular use, the noise has completely disappeared. Maximum volume is very low and sounds distorted (alone OR through an external speaker). All in all a disappointment. Now its sole purpose is to look good and collect dust.

Save yourself headaches and earaches. This is by far the worst turntable on the market today. Fisher Price plastic turntable has the best sound quality and durability.
