Helps test spark and coil operation

I have had spark testers of this type in the past. It uses a spring around the adjustment rod to take out some of the backlash that all these types of testers have. Better than the rest.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled

Works well but the ground clip is very soft sheet metal, bends easily

I tested it on a lawnmower, it worked perfectly, I had to turn the screw in to get a spark, understandable given that RPM too low when starting out of traction. . I noticed that the ground terminal is bent. Not a big deal, I think I'll add an extension cord and a bigger clamp so I can easily clamp the big screws.

Worked once then failed

I was trying to get sparks from one of the several coils I used when rebuilding an old motor. OEM parts are either too expensive or not available. I thought this article would be useful and others have had good luck with it. It worked when I first used it. The alligator clip to connect to the plug is thin and cannot clamp the plug. I've used it several times today and couldn't detect any spark. I connected the spark plug, grounded the base and tested the spark the old fashioned way. He showed…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • No instructions
