Description of DANIEL SMITH Extra Fine Watercolor Paint - 15ml Tube - Graphite Gray (284600038)

DANIEL SMITH is the Innovative Manufacturer of Beautiful Watercolors for Artists Worldwide, and makes the largest range of watercolors of any manufacturer, more than 240 colors. The 240+ color collection includes the exciting PrimaTek watercolors made from minerals (like Amethyst) plus other unique colors (like Moonglow) not available elsewhere, and Luminescent Watercolors which allow artists to capture the luminescent colors that exist in nature that regular watercolors cannot capture!. Exploration of this color reveals some surprising pigment properties beyond its obvious opacity. First, Graphite Gray disperses well and quickly in water so floating the dense pigment onto water or into a wet wash offers and interesting handling method. A dry brushstroke quickly followed by a wet brushstroke spreads some of the pigment leaving the texture look of the drybrush. Aged and weathered wood, fence posts and old buildings are fine candidates for this pigment and approach. Try this: overpaint a value sketch with a light glaze. As graphite pencil is entirely acceptable in watercolor, a synthetic graphite pigment, namely Graphite Gray, seems surprisingly natural. Excellent Lightfastness, Opaque, Non-granulating, Low staining. PBk 10. Conforms to ASTM D4236.

Graphite Gray for Painting, Drawing and Art Supplies

As expected, excellent watercolor by Daniel Smith. What I like about this gray is that by default it's pretty dark, almost black. If necessary, it can be diluted with water to give it a nice light gray color and is therefore very versatile. The other shades of gray I used were difficult to get the color I wanted.

Pros
  • Arts, Crafts and Sewing
Cons
  • Don't Remember
