Terrible device - waffle maker

I cook a lot. My children help me. My old waffle maker died and I ordered this one for removable plates and while I didn't think I would use it as a frying pan, I liked the idea that I could. Also, I grew up with small square waffles, not Belgian sizes, and bought them for that. Unfortunately, this is the worst design. There is no insulation between the heating coil and the outside of the waffle maker, heating the entire outside surface to the point where thumbtacks are required for handling…

Just like my grandma's

Well I've had this appliance for over a year now and it's very loved and well used. I use the waffle side rather than the skillet because that's what I bought it for. Cooks evenly, no hot spots (which is amazing), obviously protects your hands, and doesn't touch the metal while it's on or has been on recently. It looks dated, it's not plastic, it's metal.
