SO SURPRISED!: Electrical

I needed a Halo LED 5 1/2" downlight that is IMPOSSIBLE to find as they are no longer just 5" makes, and then I found them. Not only did I find them in Oil Rubbed Bronze, not white, so I didn't have to paint them like my other 6". My ONLY regret is not having seen them sooner before I got them in the Home Bought Depot .6" white and had to paint them all with Rust-O-Lem oil paint. They look good, but NOTHING is as good as these. Oh, and they're METAL, not PLASTIC. I can't believe the price forโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Save time and money replacing bulbs; LED chips last up to 50,000 hours or 34 years if run 4 hours a day
Cons
  • Dull Hardware

Good LED temperatures and decent light output

3000K color output is a good balance of warmth and color fidelity. The luminous flux of 670 lumens is suitable for a cave. For something like a kitchen, I would have preferred a little lighter and maybe a little whiter. The bronze finish is more of a matte dark brown, so I repainted the trim ring and left the step lens the original color, which only took about 30 seconds (plus drying time) per light. My cave is all wood and quite dark so it's hard to tell that the baffle is a different colorโ€ฆ

Replaced exposed white plastic glass on a cedar canopy

For almost 20 years I have hated installing white glass with lightweight plastic moldings by an electrician building the roof of our porch. This new one is an important step forward. This fitting is of splendid bronze colour, rubbed with oil; easy to install; and has a dimming function. Since we want the light to be as bright as needed (the smaller the difference between the lit and dark area, the safer you are) I was happy to see that this light provided WARM light, not too bright andโ€ฆ

Pros
  • For use with 6" rackmount housings with or without an integrated circuit (housing not included)
Cons
  • So far so good

Updated look... and no more halo glow!

I installed these LED downlights in 22 year old porch glasses. The finish is more brown than bronze but goes quite well with the bronze hardware on my front door. I knew the flange was 1/2 inch smaller in diameter than the original flange and that this would be a problem because the original flange dented the plaster. While there is indeed a "ring" around the fixings (which the plasterer will remove over time), it's a lot less noticeable than I thought and when the light is on the unsightly isโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Retrofit kit for 5"-6" downlights
Cons
  • Cord shorter than other options

I bought 34 of these to replace BR40 incandescent bulbs in built in banks on our porches and balconies. The bronze finish was a perfect replacement for the original dark decorative panels and went well with the stained glass ceiling. Bought 2 first to test with a Lutron RadioRA 2 6CL dimmer. Well worked and faded. Of the remaining 32 I ordered 30 new and 2 like new units from Revain inventory. Installation was easy. I've used spring clips on all but two that had an issue with C-clamps in jarsโ€ฆ
