A powerful open-source social tool: Diaspora*

The most important feature about Diaspora* was that it had no central server, which meant that you were free to run your own server. I've been using this software for a while now and have never encountered any problems with it. It works like a charm. There are some other features which I haven't used so much but they're also very useful. I would say that it's not just great in terms of privacy as you can set up multiple accounts and use them without anyone knowing. You can even share files and…

Pros
  • A lot easier than creating an account.
  • Has all necessary tools
  • Very helpful when sharing information among users or groups who don’t know eachother well enough yet want their messages seen by only few people
Cons
  • There are troubles

Very User Friendly Social Networking Website

The best thing about diaspora is how user friendly it is, as well as its community. I can find anyone within minutes on this website, which is awesome. There are some things that could be improved such as making it easier to add friends that you meet in real life. There are also some features missing for sure, like adding text posts. It would be great if there was a way to make private conversations between users more secure than just using hashtags, but with the whole concept of being…

Pros
  • Easy access from any device (phone or tablet)
  • Simple interface design
  • Lots going around at once without cluttering up your feed too much.
  • Great privacy settings not many people get hacked due because everyone has their own account instead
Cons
  • Zero

I like that it's open source, so you can see what they're doing with your data. It's not as easy to use as other platforms (Facebook/Twitter) but has some nice features such as being able to make posts in groups. The lack of moderation makes it harder for people who want privacy or are concerned about their safety. If you care about personal privacy then this isn't the right platform for you. We were looking for something where we could have our own domain name instead of using Facebook which…

Pros
  • everyone gets everything except pornography
Cons
  • Some problems
