🔦 Enhance Visibility on Ford / Mercury Models with Dorman 68163 License Plate Light Lens Review

Slightly messy on the rear bumper of my 2001 F250 but works. Factory buildings were narrower. I had to trim the bulb socket down a bit to make room for the longer LED bulbs I installed, which has nothing to do with the fit of this build. I've just driven 1600 miles and the assembly is still there. I could put some sealant on it to keep it from vibrating due to the loose fit, but I don't think it matters. I would buy again.

Replaced the broken original with 08 F-250 XLT 6.4 , the original is in two parts. The first part is a black plastic ring around the white bulb socket and the second part is the part that snaps onto the bumper which you can see in the picture alongside this review. I purchased these license plate light brackets to replace the original ones on my 2001 field trip. They fit perfectly and were easy to assemble with no instructions. Below are the pros and cons. Bought a Dorman License Plate Light 68183 for my 2003 Ford Explorer-Trac to replace the one that someone stole from my truck in the store lot. This is a great replacement part! The license plate light matched my Explorer-Trac perfectly! Installation was easy. We put the Dorman Place Lamp in the slot, twisted to lock, and that's it! These lenses look just like the originals, but with a little problem. If you're about to reinstall the outlet, they're too loose for comfort. Don't worry, there's a pretty simple fix. The original liner on my cartridge was 1/16 inch thick, which was too thin to provide a good seal in these new lenses. 1/16" o-ring to fit over the stock gasket. The fit is fairly snug but I'd rather the cartridge not fall out of the case while driving, especially as my lightbulbs are LED and don't go outdoors…

This part is identical to the original Ford part except for the transverse hole on the back where the lamp base fits. The OEM version has two small notches or tabs with small tabs in the plastic, spaced 180 degrees apart, that act as stops when you rotate the lamp base to lock it onto the connector.
