Dorman 926 000 Spare Tire Tool Review

My used suburb didn't have this set. The square end that engages the winch to lower the tires was rounded when first used and required hammer work to straighten it out again. Have used it once since and it hasn't rounded it out. I don't quite believe that.

I checked twice if this would work for my 2000 Silverado z71. I trusted Revane to say it would work, even though a lot of people said it would work. The ID of the tool is too large for the OD of the carriage shank. It's small enough to be gripped but rounds off on the first torque try.

I have a spare tire tool kit and wanted to make sure it would fit my 2001 Silverado 1500 before loading it into the truck. I lowered the tire only a few inches, but the cheap metal on the end of the tool rounded when I tried to lift the spare into place. If you buy this product, remember that you will only use it once.

I tried lifting it with the other end and it rounded too. Now it doesn't work anymore. Absolutely useless. I thought Dorman was quality. Now I'll be more careful with reviews. I'm glad I tried it when I didn't need it. I would be ashamed to take someone's money to sell them this crap.

Absolutely useless thing! The metal used is so thin that I couldn't get the spare tire lock off. The end rounded before I could get it all the way down (no hoop!). I didn't try to lift the spare part into place with this thing because I value my sanity. This thing is under no circumstances capable of doing what it is designed to do. Don't buy this. Period.

This fits my Avalanche and I was able to remove the tire but the open end that fits into the jack will stretch and no longer fit snugly with too much use . I got it back in shape, but if your spare tire jack is rusty, it's probably going to break. Hopefully I'll only need it in an emergency, but I'd also carry a couple of sturdy bench vises with me in case you need to bend it back into shape.

I got the spare tire removal tool and tried it. Counterclockwise (down), clockwise (up) and stripped the square to no avail. Someone mentioned in a review that the same thing happened to them. I bought this product because he said it was a DORMAN product so I bought a spare tire crank. Since Dorman is aware of this manufacturing issue, why don't they use this feedback and improve their product, they don't say "SO FIX IT" about it. Don't expect it to work when you need it. The packaging and item looked great when I received it but I was unable to use it. Luckily, I first used it at home, using a tool to lift the spare tire with the winch mechanism. The square end of the extension bent when I lifted the tire 1/2 way. I switched bars, and the second extension continued to raise it, but also blocked it. There is nothing abnormal about my lifting mechanism or the process that caused it. Looks great unpackaged, nice coloring and factory look. This is as far as it can go. First, it didn't fit under the square slot for lowering the jack. Second, the quality control was terrible, there were typos on the packaging. It said your car was in "Pack" mode, not "Park". I had to hammer this cheap steel into a smaller square to fit snug enough to lower my spare tire. I was lucky to try it first instead of throwing it under the back seat and being turned down with an actual flat. Don't buy…
