Seems okay, but Dorman sucks.

Dorman sucks but they are the only aftermarket company that makes this kit so that was my only option. It gives me peace of mind when I'm out and about, but with Dorman's reputation for electronics I fully expect to break something on first use. Spring. The time will show.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • I don't like anything about it, everything is fine

Broke on first use.

Bought this kit to raise/lower the spare tire. The first time I lifted the tire, the end came loose from the rest of the tool. It was just compressed - no welding or anything else that could hold it up. I ended up re-welding the tool and it works fine now, but I didn't have to.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Don't remember

The quality is good and it comes with a handy pouch.

Good quality, comes with a good storage bag. It fits, so if you have a factory jack but need to change tools on the Excursion, it fits. It uses 2 longer extensions instead of 3 shorter ones from the factory. It still fits next to the jack and costs no more than $100 like Ford parts.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Long delivery time

look good but don't work at all until you change them!

can be used before roadside. Wrench so the extension could go through the wrench was 105 degrees curb today the first time I tried changing a tire and found they weren't done well.

  • Build quality

Remove the anti-theft device on the winch and it works great.

Purchased for 2004 Factory F250 Spare Tire Winch. Worked like a champ. 2 extension bars that can be locked and attached to the tire changer to be used as a handle. I had a factory anti-theft device that I had to remove from the winch first, but after removing it I had no problems. The lock pops out easily with a flat head screwdriver and you can see how to do it in a YouTube video. Definitely worth buying around $100 with the OEM tool kit.

Pros
  • GOLS Certified
Cons
  • Very Expensive

Works in a 2004 F250 full size bed.

I bought a used 2004 F250 that didn't come with a spare tire tool kit. Buy this and I also had a spare wheel because the truck didn't come with it. At first I didn't think it was the right size to put the spare tire on. Turns out the Fords come with an anti-theft device, which I didn't have either, but at least I didn't have a spare tire, so I removed that anti-theft device. Always with Tranquillity. After removing the anti-theft device, this tire tool kit worked great for me.

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • Useless features

Bad Design: Tire & Wheel Tools

I bought a used truck and didn't have a jack so I bought one as a spare. Lowering the tire worked great but the tail said it spun in the shaft once there was some resistance. The end piece that goes into the jack simply slips into the end of the shaft and crimps. Dorman has to weld this part in place or at least pin it in place to keep it from rotating. I had to re-center the end piece and hit it with a hammer to finish raising the tire, but it ended up twisting out again. The only good thing…

Broken on first use, suitable for tire repair tools

I bought a new spare wheel holder and a new set of tools, because I was missing, when I got the truck, I attached the spare wheel to the spare wheel holder, used tool to lifting it into place, and about halfway through, the bit that fits into the spare wheel holder begins to turn in the tool shank. Either their design is not perfect, or the materials are of poor quality, or they are not compressed enough to hold the bit. I had to use a tool from another truck to lift the spare tire holder, the…
