Dorman 973-414 HVAC Blower Motor Resistor Kit for Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury Model Selection Review

Excellent instructions and amazing quality. I wasn't sure if I just needed the resistor or the wire harness. Turns out I needed both. The cable included in this kit was much heavier than the original harness and also came with very high quality heat shrink connectors. It couldn't be easier and now my fan is running at all speeds again.

This fixed the fan speed control on my 1998 F150 where some speed settings were lost. Turns out I didn't need a new wiring harness as mine wasn't corroded. If you need a wire harness, you need to connect the other end of the wires to the truck's wire harness. I don't know why they don't include a connector on this end as it would make installation much easier.

The information was insufficient for the order and did not match my car. There is more than one resistor type per year per model depending on whether it is factory AC, aftermarket AC or no AC. After it arrived I went to Dorman's website, looked up the correct part number for my car and bought it immediately.

This was a replacement for a 1999 Ford F150. It is best to buy the wiring harness and resistor together like this Dorman 973-414 kit . It wasn't too difficult and even came with butt connectors to connect the new wiring harness. The new wiring harnesses are actually thicker and appear to be of higher quality overall than the originals. If your air conditioner is only blowing at high power, then this is most likely the problem. Great deal and highly recommended.

It took me a few minutes to figure out the location but it ended up being very easy. If you're tall and tall like me, it's a little tricky that the seat is under and behind the glove box on the 98 Expedition. So I installed it a bit "blindly". But it's easy to get in. Worked great to replace a rusty resistor (water damage) on my 2006 Ford Escape. The fan motor was also replaced, now it works perfectly in all 4 speeds. The price is better than the OEM and the black finish looks better too (but who would look there). I needed a complete version as the old wiring harness could not be removed. Great to have a low fan speed again. Repeating other comments: works well, does the trick, a little frustrating to get there on my '99 expedition, but just go ahead, reach out and work blind. Only 2 screws 7mm. I know of some other models where you can open the glove box for easier access, but not mine.
