Description of πŸ”§ Optimized for SEO: Cobalt Reduced Shank Drill America

Cobalt steel tools are similar to high-speed steel, but with more cobalt for improved performance when cutting harder metals such as stainless steel or nickel alloys. Gold oxide is a thinner oxide surface treatment than black oxide typically used to identify cobalt steel tools; performance is similar to uncoated tools. Round shanks allow use with a wide variety of toolholding systems. When run in a counterclockwise direction (right-hand cut) spiral fluted tools evacuate chips up and out of the cut to reduce clogging. Manufactured to National Aerospace standard 907.

Requires a good 5//8 " drill bit capable of cutting through

The drill bit worked great but I thought the $40 price was a bit over the top just because it had a 3/8 shank to fit the smaller drill bits. Larger 1/2 shank drill bits were a lot Cheaper #2: Area hardware stores only sell bits with 5/8" 1/2" shank.

Pros
  • Multipurpose tag metal Cobalt steel tools are similar to HSS but have a higher cobalt content to improve performance when cutting harder metals such as stainless steel or nickel alloys.
Cons
  • Big and bulky

11/16 " drill through 1/4 " thick steel

For drilling 18 holes in A36 steel 1/4" thick. I didn't use a pilot hole or a pre-drilled hole. I used cutting fluid and stopped 6-8 times per hole to add cutting fluid. The last hole is still drilled as normal. I don't know how many holes There was still some left of the chisel but that was all I needed for the project. The bit and hole diameter was only .687". This is a quality tool. Thank you

Pros
  • When moving counter-clockwise (right hand cutting), spiral grooving tools clear chips up and out of the cut to reduce clogging
Cons
  • Without instructions

Item has been extensively modified by a previous customer

Used in good condition with minor blemishes, does not correspond to actual condition. 3/4 inch or more has been removed from the drill shank. This has removed most of the ground surfaces in the shank that are in contact with the drill chuck. If this was accepted as a return from a previous purchase then this should not be the case as the length of the item has been changed significantly.

Pros
  • Manufactured for National Aerospace 907
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
