Much more than expected. They are the same diameter as the 12mm I received two days earlier, so someone miscalculated their measurements (actual diameter is 12mm, hence the negative review belongs here). I haven't actually been able to get them closed yet, but to be honest I gave up as they were clearly a lot bigger than I wanted.

The hoop earrings are much larger than 8mm and very thick. They just look very bulky and out of proportion when in my ear, both in the earlobe and in the cartilage. Also, the metal finish on the earrings was poorly applied and one of the earring's 'clasps' broke off and I had to throw it away. The clasp is more or less a small piece of metal that should align with the back when folded. There is no way to make the clasp secure. And the clasp is very thin and bends easily.

These are cute earrings and the size is right. I bought them for a cartilage piercing but couldn't use them for that as the clasp on these earrings is very fragile and won't close. I spent over an hour trying to fasten the earring (clasp and ring didn't match) only to despairingly give up. I was able to close them on the outside of my ear but not when I put the earring through my piercing. I'm trying them out as hoop earrings for my second lobe piercing, but I still can't get them on!
