Those are the iron filings I was looking for.

I was doing a project involving electromagnets and magnetic field imaging. Thin iron filings did not help. These are big, thick sawdust, so you can actually see them standing on end in a strong magnetic field. Thin shavings are good for small 2D fields, but if you need 3D effects and strong fields, these shavings are for you.
