ELEGRP Charger Resistant Receptacle Included Review

I installed it outside but 10 feet from the porch eaves. It powers the USB camera and is great for this application. Installation was easy. The only problem I had with the socket was that the ground screw came loose and it's almost impossible to screw it back in since the nut is in the socket. No big deal.

Installation was easy and straight forward, no different than installing an outlet or switch. Modern design attracts attention. Charging is fast, although not as fast as with a factory charger. My galaxy never shows fast charging when using USB port. However, loading times are only slightly slower. A good buy for the price and features.

I built this into a granite countertop so I love the fact that it's a 'safe' outlet with plastic covers inside. You have to use some force to plug anything in, but it also holds things like flour, sugar, etc. This is for an outlet, USB chargers don't have this feature and I don't know of anything that does anything like it. However, we have used it to charge our iPhones and it works well for that purpose.

I bought TWO of these. One of them had one of the screws holding the neutral wire already screwed in and so tight that it couldn't be loosened to attach a wire to it. On the other hand, the neutral conductor screw was tightened when it was delivered, but broke off when it was loosened and could no longer be used to attach the ground cable. It appears to be a quality control or maybe even a design flaw. Beware.

I installed three with no problems but the fourth had a few problems: I unscrewed the ground screw (green) and it wouldn't screw back into the slot. Please note that many of these USB charger sockets are slightly longer than a standard two prong socket. Home Depot now has a Leviton outlet with two USB chargers (same footprint as this product) BUT the size is identical to a standard two-plug outlet. It was easier and faster for the Leviton point of sale to install this ELEGRP product.

It was easy enough to install and it works. iPad will charge, but NOT FAST. Not as fast as when connected to another charger. This is because the advertised figure of "4.0 amps" appears to apply to both ports and not to each. more than 2 amps. That's not the point :( I'm not sending it back as it's a hassle to remove and ship during epidemics. But you might want to buy another one. On the other hand, if 2 amps per socket is enough for your needs, that's fine.

I bought this set of 6 built in USB sockets to add one to every room in our house. The record itself appears to be of good quality. However, when installing the wires, the screws must be TIGHTENED VERY FIRMLY to hold the wire in the socket. Unfortunately, I didn't discover this until I installed the latest version. . . then I had to go back and double check them all. . . and voila! Two of them had loose wires - I had to tighten the screws to secure the wires. I don't like the overlays either…

Firstly, this socket is much cheaper than similar products in big hardware stores. For that alone it's worth the purchase for me. It's a little "designer" in the sense that it has a screwless lid, so it looks a little better than a regular socket. It seems to charge well, and tamper-proof outlets keep sawdust from my store from getting into the ports. My job was to install it horizontally. The ground screw is in an impossible place and it's quite a hassle to line up the wire in the box…
