Great Product: Portable Audio & Video

Great Product! Multiple charging options - battery, solar, grid. The weather is right and the voice is clear. Demonstratively upgrade from previous versions. We live in a village and are very dependent on this radio.

Pros
  • Hands Free
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

Cheap Parts - Portable Audio & Video

Better than nothing. may be. I've had several radios from this brand and they all broke. This screen stopped working after a few months. Make it programmable and useless. Shortly after the handle broke, he was only testing his ability to charge for 30 seconds.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Damaged

Eaton FRX4 - Design flaw

Every time I put this in my backpack and think it's fully charged I pull it out and the light is on and the device is empty. The problem is that the button for the light is on the shoulder of the device. So if it inevitably bumps into something in your backpack, the light will turn on and drain the battery. Otherwise it's a solid unit. I'll leave it at home in case the lights go out. So I think I'll order something else for the backpack.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Empty

Eton is best for portable AV

Bought this for fishing to listen to the radio and put it in my large dog backpack. A large solar panel is key! So my girlfriend loves it and always puts it in the kitchen in the morning sun in the window while listening to music. Sometimes she takes it with her. I do not recommend charging it or using it via the charging ports without reading the instructions. There is a trick that can reduce radio reception. Something like that. But it's a solid, waterproof radio and it's loud enough.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Available in white only

Eton = poor quality control these days

I have received a few Eton products in the past related to emergency preparedness. In terms of functionality, they are still quite attractive. But all three Eton products I bought this year turned out to be defective and I had to send them back multiple times to get a working one. As a result, I no longer trust Eton products. They seem to have very poor quality control so I wouldn't want to rely on them in any emergency. As a result, it will be a long time before I ever try any other Eton…

Pros
  • An absolute legend
Cons
  • Upgradable

Two bad knots.

I bought the FRX-4 to replace the Kaito KA-350 (both models can be battery, solar, crank or USB powered). I wanted something with a higher capacity battery and a better radio (my area has some strong AM/FM stations, Kaito has trouble with some). The FRX-4 seems to fit the bill and is more durable (although the Kaito is considerably smaller). Either I have two defective devices or they use inferior components. AM sound is distorted at lower volume and becomes clearer at higher volume. The…

  • Rugged construction

Great service from Revain

Received this recently (late April 2016). This could serve as an early warning but when big hit comes I feel like I'm better off with something much stronger which I'll order once I see it's strong. I had a small issue, not with quality (which is so-so), but a small issue that the folks at Revain handled beyond measure and well beyond challenge. Amazing service. Years ago I had an argument with one of my oldest and best friends who told me to buy things online but I told him I don't trust…

Pros
  • Stable test results
Cons
  • Exchange availability

I wish I had one that works!

Features look great as I had hoped. But to my dismay when Hurricane Matthew rolled in, I took my FRX4 out of the box for the first time and it wouldn't turn on. However, after some excitement, the flashlight caught fire and would not turn off. After the storm I sent the block back to Eton at my own expense and waited for a new one. A new one arrived today and it won't turn on with the batteries in or the USB cable plugged in. However, the flashlight turned on when the USB cable was plugged in…

Pros
  • Sturdy finish
Cons
  • Speed

Good radio, bad display.

The display on this radio is dim and difficult to see. It doesn't have much contrast and poor viewing angles. It is normal when the room is viewed horizontally, but if you look straight ahead the display will appear dim and if you look down the display will disappear. A weak display cannot be seen on the road. Thinking this was not normal I emailed Eton customer service but received no response a week later. I assumed it was defective so I sent it back and ordered a replacement but the display…

Pros
  • Test for one year
Cons
  • I have no negative feelings about it, everything is fine
