So this drive's packaging clearly states that it is compatible with NGFF M.2 2280 2260 2242 2230 SSD is with key B/key B+M. Interestingly, the label on my SSD says "NGFF M.2 2280". I bought this to use with my NVMe drive which I removed before understanding all the M.2 options . I ended up buying another NVMe case that worked great. Instead of returning this case I bought an NGFF M.2 drive for it. Again I hit a snag because this case will not work with an unformatted drive. This enclosure works as advertised, but I didn't get the throughput I expected with either the 120GB Kingston M2 SATA drive or the 500GB WD Blue drive.
