Well made, great color and nice case for my boost converter

Great case for my NooElect boost converter. I would rate it 5 stars but was missing two (2) screws to hold the converter in place. It might not have been included, but that doesn't hurt as I have a few screws left over from previous projects. The body is well built and the color is anodized on metal. Looks good and protects the boost converter well.

Pros
  • Large selection
Cons
  • Style 90

Nooelec Ham Boost Converter works very well

I had the usual issues setting it up, but it was worth it. The gain settings on the RTL-SDR were critical. Once that was sorted out, I was able to listen to international shortwave without any problems. I use SDR# for spectrum mapping and demodulation. I've only had it for a short time but if it's like other Nooelec products I've owned it should be a solid and reliable unit. My next project will use this as part of a shortwave DRM receiver.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons

The housing I received did not fit the SMA output connector as the hole was about 1/16 inch shorter was offset by the nearest edge To the switch, no matter how I played with the posts, I had to use a metal file to open the hole wider to allow the end cap to fit the circuit board on the case, and the edge dented a bit. There is much more space on the input side SMA connector, there was a small gap around the connector which made installing this end cap easier. I hope NooElec will improve quality

  • New to my collection

But there really isn't a good way to align the board to the case

Looks sexy and stylish Clean appearance. But there's really no good way to align the board to the case. In this case, it is necessary to apply some torque to the RF connectors during assembly, as well as to position the internal posts correctly. You must be very careful when aligning before attaching the end caps. I only secured the board posts lightly by fastening one end and then using hemostats (think very thin pliers with very long jaws) to tighten the posts. I think more "model…

2019 Ham It Up PLUS Review

Ham It Up Plus doesn't work in 2019 unless you drill a 3rd hole on one of the end plates: toggle switch, SMA is there but 2nd SMA needs a hole on this end. See photo. The other end has 1 SMA and 3 LEDs, thankfully pre-drilled. The Ham it up plus board is also narrower so it doesn't fit in or even touch the channels. No worries, you just use the hex standoffs and nuts on the board and then the short screws on the bottom of the box to hold the standoffs in place: the board in the box is rock…

  • Few competitors

  • This is driving me insane

Should have. But it needs to be modified to work properly.

The case is great for protecting the circuit board and preventing damage over time. However, it takes some work to actually function as an RF shield. As others have encountered tolerances when manufacturing the Ham It Up circuit board, this means you often need to get a file and widen some holes to make the circuit board fit. I've returned my Ham it Up PCB to Revain twice and each time had slightly different socket and connector alignment issues. But that's more of a problem than a case with…
