I've never had a raincoat before this one, so I'm not sure how it compares to typical ones. I love the color though, and it's a good weight; heavy but not overwhelmingly so. Little splashes of water roll right off, but after being in heavy rain, it does take a little while for it to dry fully. The hood is nice, but although rain isn't getting in my face, it's still sometimes hard to see because the visor physically blocks the top half of my vision. I was looking for a long jacket or coat that would protect me in the rain. This coat length raincoat is made of waterproof polyurethane and not nylon or polyester which, after many failed purchases I have found does not keep you absolutely dry in a heavy rain. The quality is very good. It is quite a heavy material but not uncomfortable. It looks really cute on. I did get a size up from my normal size L and was glad I did. The fir was perfect. I am tall, and sleeves are often a problem, but these are long enough. I suspect this is absolutely waterproof. And it is warm. It is like a slicker—kind of thick. It is a great deal for the price.

Wanted something just for the rain, I don’t like carrying umbrellas, and this definitely does the job! The fabric is not very soft and can be uncomfortable against your skin!

This raincoat is not super light weight it's perfect for rainy/windy weather. With a sweatshirt it is quite warm, so layers are your friend! With just a t-shirt it is perfect for me on a medium warm (60s) day. I also like that the hood is bigger - sort of an extra baseball cap bill almost, that can also be folded back, if necessary, for ease of sight. My only wish is for an inside pocket or two. I bought this jacket for a recent trip to Seattle. I live in LA so I don’t have a hooded raincoat and I don’t have a medium weight jacket. This is both! The hood is fantastic- large, deep enough for a ponytail, and has an extra brim so even Seattle natives were asking me where I found it. It’s lined and has pockets inside and deep pockets outside. This coat is really cute and it is water resistant. I really like the thickness of the outer layer, almost rubbery, instead of the more modern thin windbreaker type raincoat. Being in the PNW, a raincoat is a must for all seasons, ha! I would say this is best for fall/possibly early spring. This is a really well made jacket with wonderful material. However, it runs small and I'm sending it back. The raincoat is not very functional and can limit your range of motion.
