I think it works fine. It doesn't actually sit very tightly in place, so there's enough clearance on the sides for any flying insect that wants to build a nest (wasps, etc.) to crawl in if they want to. I would prefer a rubber pad on the outside and will probably add one. For the money I think that's fine as it gives you a basic structure that you can change to make it work well.

You really don't need this umbrella, the holes in the umbrella are pretty big. My husband said he would just use a piece of cut out screen taped to the vent if I don't order it's not worth sending back. The actual vent cover has a louvered opening on the back which could potentially let wasps etc into the cover. While this should protect against wasps, it does not work on small flying insects or the nasopharynx.

The one I got was warped. Even when it snaps, it doesn't provide a decent seal on the hood (leaving a large gap between the screen and the hood body). If a bee, mosquito, bug, etc. ever walked through the vent, they would most likely have found their way through the screen and into the vent cover. I need to change either the vent cover or the screen for it to work as advertised. Also, I agree with other reviewers that this should come with a vent cap at no extra cost. If someone like me pays…
