Cheap but leaking - Gaskets

Overall package was good but after a few weeks oil started leaking out of the rear. RTV was applied in the right places but the gasket isn't sealing well enough.

Pros
  • Amazing
Cons
  • Nothing here

The worst. best in spare parts

Worst rocker cover gasket I've ever worked with. Usually Fel-Pro pads are great, but not this one. Like other reviewers, I installed it on my NA Miata and it immediately started leaking like a sieve. This isn't my first rodeo so I don't think there was a problem with the install. Replacement by Mahle seal, no problem.

  • Impressive
Cons
  • Great

Cannot match the quality of Felpro

Crashing after 2 weeks of use. Installed when changing the timing belt and in two weeks the back of the seal developed two cracks spewing oil onto the firewall. Remember it hasn't been overstretched. If it were too tight, the gasket would crush all over and leak. It's more like he couldn't take the heat. Like a factory wedding.

Pros
  • Brings joy
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

this is better than the one it replaced

Don't forget your RTV for some 90 degree angles near the cameras! It has passed within a month and I haven't had a small leak around the rims or the spark plug sockets. this is better than what he replaced. I'll try to remember to update this in a year or so, but for now it does the job and is very cheap.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Hard to tell

leaks. No worse than OEM.

I bought two of these for my two Miats over a year ago. Both flowed all the time. I reinstalled them and after a few days they are still leaking. I finally gave in and bought two original pads. They've been in the car for a month now, dry to the bone. Some people may have had better luck, but for an extra $20 an OEM gasket will seal a lot better. This isn't just my experience. Many people on Miata.net are reporting the same issue with aftermarket valve cover gaskets. This is one of those parts…

high quality Mazda Type B Engine Gasket Kit

This is a really good quality Mazda Type B Engine Gasket Kit but check the engine type; they are a little different. My mechanic couldn't fix a simple oil leak. So I got the job done myself in the driveway in less than 2 hours [I was just taking my time]. A very good seal is achieved with a small amount of Permatex 82180 Ultra Black RTV Sealer on the underside only. This stopped the oil leak which my mechanic couldn't do [this may have been an oversight as his stupid helper did the job]. Either

Pros
  • Rocker Cover Gasket Kits
Cons
  • Expensive

This was the second time I've used this rocker cover gasket on my Miat and both started crying within a few weeks. I followed Mazda's specified tightening procedure using a torque wrench. I've had good experiences with Fel-Pro seals on other vehicles and thought the first one was an accident, but both started leaking pretty badly on the sides almost immediately. Just enough oil to be visible on the exhaust manifold heat shield. The PCV valve has been tested correctly. Seems like a lot of other…

I wish there was better oil retention in the engine

Purchased and installed this gasket when I replaced the timing belt, water pump etc on my 1999 Miata last May. I like most Fel-Pro pads but this one is an exception. THIS IS A LEAK. I installed the gasket when needed with swabs of oil resistant silicone and torqued the valve cover bolts to 55 in-lbs in the correct pattern. I've read on the Miata forums that others have had better luck with a Mazda Miata factory rocker cover gasket. So I bought a factory seal for about $65 which sucked. The…

So far so good, but only for a few days

The last time I changed the gasket on my '94 Miat, it started leaking again. This time I used a locally purchased Fel-Pro gasket. After reading the reviews here I hope my experience will not be repeated. I tightened the bolts in turn, this time a little tighter to 10 ft-lbs (120 in-lbs), since that's the lowest setting my 3/8-inch torque wrench is capable of. It's only been a few days. I will update and increase or decrease the star rating accordingly. I also replaced the camshaft angle sensor…
