Feliway is much better than giving your cat sedatives. By spraying or using Feliway wipes in the carrier, you can reduce anxiety when taking your kitten to the vet. This is a great product.

My vet introduced me to Feliway a few years ago and I've been using it ever since. My cat is a bit nervous and doesn't take car rides very well. I put a small tissue in her cage and she falls asleep or just relaxes in her carrier. Used it to exercise for 3 hours and she only spoke to us quietly a few times and was comfortable the whole way.
