The image on Amazon is nowhere near the actual product when it arrived. The delivery is amazing in terms of time. The product is actually very, very good. Nowhere near the picture. It's like salt in a salt shaker. I will be able to use it but I want the photos to show what you are actually getting.

I bought this item to add some realism to the background scene on the game machine layout. I have a rail yard with 3 yards of tracks leading to a long siding for the main track. When this ballast is added to the rails, it gives the scene a realistic look that is essential to any railroad scene. This item was priced for a quick sale, arrived as described with fast shipping and I would highly recommend this seller. KCK

Item arrived in my inbox on a Sunday. It was in a lightweight plastic mail bag with no padding. So the plastic cover was broken. Luckily the container had a cap to prevent the ballast from spilling out. The product itself is fine as ordered but the packaging was very poor.

I've started ballasting my tracks and the fine grain gray mixed ballast looks very good. Some have suggested mixing some medium ballast with fine ballast and this might be more typical but I went with the fine ballast and it looks very nice. With over 50ft of travel I thought I might need more than one bottle and am wondering if I ordered too many. The time will show.

In my opinion, this product is too good for the HO scale. After some research on the internet I have come to the conclusion that the product may be the right size compared to the prototype. However, it should be noted that it appears too beautiful to the eye (perception). Some modelers find that medium ballast is better suited for HO gauge. You may have to decide whether you prefer scale accuracy or perceived appearance.
