Did an insulation of my garage door. This helped a lot to trim the foam panels so they would fit in the cavities of the door. It cuts well just don't force it too much. The wire eventually broke but the fix was easy with the instructions and the included wire. Bought this for an assignment I have due in two days and turns out it does not work at all although I have used so many good battery brands

This styro cutter did not work. I tried several new batteries and could not get it to work. It did not get good ratings but I thought I'd try it anyway since I thought it could be a very helpful tool. I was disappointed that I didn't get to try it out. Customer service was wonderful, however. I returned it without any hassle for a full credit.

I bought two of these and they were both DOA. Used brand new Duracells both times and double checked everything—the batteries worked in a lantern and were installed properly etc. (even tried them upside-down). Made sure the bottom/cap coil was well-seated and tweaked the switch a little bit because it feels very loose and generally crappy. No luck. I love the ease with which this cuts foam perfectly and with minimal odor, so it can be used indoors. It is limited in depth, but easily can be adapted.

This is a serviceable tool for a one-off diy project, which is what I needed it for. Cheap parts, and mine only had one extra wire (package says two), but for the price it served the purpose and worked fine. If you plan to use it a lot it’s worth investing in something better.

Failed to work out of the package, as did the first one ordered. Older model worked great for years—adding the power light circuitry was unnecessary complicator.

Did the job just fine! I had to cut big blocks into smaller sections. I'm not sure how easy this would be for other applications given the dimensions of the outside bar but for my purposes it got the job done.

It heats up and cuts foam fine. However the light to let me know it's on, does not work. Decent for the price, but still not great.

Guys.this thing is a piece of junk. Went through 6 D batteries just "heating up" and never worked at all. Awful.

This is a really useful tool if you're into model making or arts and crafts. It works extremely well, but it does have one significant problem. Your piece of styrofoam can only be a few inches thick, otherwise it's too wide for the piece of wire that does the cutting.

This is exactly what I was looking for. A friend had this product 5 years ago. I found myself in a similar design situation and knew this cutter is what I needed to cut intricate shapes out of foam. It worked great!

Did not work as delivered. Wire did not get hot. The only reason I give it 2 stars is I was able to use it with an external power supply @ 3V - 850mA. This unit does not work with normal D-cells. It might work with some special batteries, hard to say. I did not spend time to figure out what was wrong with my unit I just needed to make 3 cuts.
