I finally understood that in old age. They have other straps at home and will probably replace them. Why buy belts with buckles? Save a few bucks and buy something like this. As for this particular one. It is worth the asking price. I have no negative feedback about it (about a month later).

Nice wide leather belt. Be sure to order one size larger. I range from 36 to 38 pants so I ordered 40 and they fit perfectly with room on either side.

Great belt for the price Glad I spent the extra money and bought this instead of the cheaper ones listed as full grain leather which are not and will fall apart sooner rather than later. The details on this belt are beautiful, more visible on the brown version than on the black version at least in the photos. I bought dark brown. The belt appears to be made of good quality leather but it is clearly not dyed leather as the finishing wears off quickly.

This belt is as high quality as I have seen and beats some of the much more expensive competitors. They are true to size, but the type of buckle you use can make them look different. Measure a leather belt that fits you without the buckle and you'll be fine.
