Great concept. The pads work as intended on impact. But the size is not the same. For size M, the specified calf circumference must be between 14 and 15 inches. Thighs - 16.5 - 17.5. My calves are 14 inches and my hips are 17 inches. Clearly M. However, the calf circumference is only 11 inches, which restricts my circulation. These protectors are a great choice for trail riding. You'll probably want something more powerful for mostly enduro/downhill, but for general trail they were great.
