Good product, buy Gates thermostat whenever you need it.

Good product, buy a Gates thermostat if you need to replace an old one, I bought 2 others from Autozone - bad, motor overheated then bought a second one from OReilly - special order, should be in Being ok, Same disappointment, overheated motor, mechanic finally told me to buy Gates and now I have no more overheating issues. motor, so once again I can really recommend Gates products.

Not compatible with OE for Subaru. The result is overheating.

Installed on a 2004 Subaru Forester, car overheated on first drive. Had to reset the previously used thermostat to get the car running again. As other reviewers point out, the valve size is much smaller than the original. Not sure if it was because of that or just an unfortunate part, but either way it's rubbish. I've used Gates products a few times in the past with no problems, but never again after that and their "perfect fit" upper radiator hose which was a complete joke. Save time and extra

OEM and gates open and behave the same in boil water test

So I tested this thermostat as well as the Subaru OEM thermostat. While it says here it opens at 170, it actually didn't open until around 190, which is what Subaru's OEM thermostat did. For anyone who keeps hearing that you need an OEM (three times the price), I wouldn't believe it. The. They both look exactly the same, open up and behave the same in boiling water, so maybe one lasts longer than the other? I don't have this information. I just changed a Subaru OEM thermostat with 7 years andโ€ฆ
