It's a great tool for gemstone identification

I'm actually surprisingly happy with my tester. Like any gem tester, it cannot tell you exactly which gem you have, but narrows it down to a few of similar thermal conductivity. You must then research other qualities to determine which stone you have. For example, for a light blue stone, these could be topaz and spinel, but to tell them apart we need to consider their response to ultraviolet light. Since aquamarine and blue topaz differ greatly in their conductivity, the tester will rule out aโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Like everything before
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

I used this device a couple of times before it gave me a prompt error message. I was careful with it after reading all the reviews but it broke anyway. I called the seller and he got me to send it into production, after an absence of 2 months I finally got the same device back with a new tip. GREAT. Haven't used it in less than a week and it's already broken. Testing keeps talking, and I haven't even touched the top of the stone yet. If it was made in the USA it might work better. Unless youโ€ฆ

  • boring packaging

Good idea in theory and ergonomics, very nice design. My device had issues with the battery cover just falling off when it was locked in place. It took two pieces of tape to attach securely. More importantly, however, the software appeared to have had significant problems as it got into a loop constantly thinking it was testing a jewel. The only stone that could be reliably identified was a diamond. Otherwise he could not identify tourmaline, spinel, amethyst, topaz or other common coloredโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Bead and jewelry making
Cons
  • Some little things

Mine came with a faulty calibration disc #2. So I had to register the device with the manufacturer for warranty and then contact support to get a replacement calibration disc. What a headache for something that should be ready to go! Before calibrating the device, I performed an accuracy test. 5 of 4 stones (2 rubies and 2 sapphires, 1 peridot) peridot I bought on Ebay came back as green glass ๐Ÿ˜ก, 2 sapphires passed exact test, 1 ruby passed exact test and 1 ruby was tested as spinel .
